Homebuyer Tax Credit May be Available Even If You Already Own a Home
The federal government recently expanded the opportunity for persons to take advantage of the $8,000 tax credit for the purchase of a "first" home. Assuming you are otherwise eligible, you can now qualify for the credit if you enter into a valid written contract to purchase a principal residence before May 1, 2010 and close on the purchase before July 1, 2010.
Perhaps especially advantageous to divorcing persons is the extension of the tax credit to existing homeowners who are "long-time residents" and not necessarily first time home buyers who purchased a home after November 6, 2009.
To see whether you may be eligible for this valuable but limited homebuyer tax credit, contact this firm, your accountant or financial advisor immediately.
